For What Its Worth by Fred Joshu

For What Its Worth speaks to us on a standardized point of view. An anthology of short stories and poems that have touched the author during his life. It takes us on a view of what one man has learned and seen.
Some years ago, the late Paul Harvey, on “The Rest of the Story”, aired Pastor Joe Wright’s prayer to the opening session of the Kansas Senate. Legislators expected the traditional benediction. But they heard something else. Stung by the message, many walked out in protest.
“Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance.
We know Your Word has been ignored by those who call evil good, but that is exactly what they have done.
We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

Minister Joe Wright prayer that shook the world.

Prayer to the Kansas House of Representatives Sparked Furor

MAN, oh, man! No sooner had their guest chaplain concluded his prayer than three Democrats in the state Legislature were on their feet at microphones protesting, " He can't talk like that to us! Delbert Gross considered the invocation, gross, calling it " divisive ," " sanctimonious " and " overbearing. I've secured the entire text of the invocation so you can evaluate it: "Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and inverted our values. We confess that we have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your word in the name of moral pluralism.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will, to open ask it in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ.

When Pastor Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual politically correct generalities. But, what they heard instead was a stirring prayer, passionately calling our country to repentance and righteousness. The response was immediate and a number of legislators walked out during the prayer. In six short weeks, the Central Christian Church USA had logged more than 5, phone calls, with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. Commentator Paul Harvey aired the prayer on the radio and received a larger response to this program than any other program he has ever aired. The Central Christian Church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa, and Korea.

Having had the opportunity to give invocations and benedictions at several city, county, and state functions, I was very interested in reading a newspaper column by noted radio personality Paul Harvey.,
