Im a Big Sister by Joanna Cole

An companion to Im a Big Brother, this Joanna Cole and Maxie Chambliss childrens book shows big sisters through short and concise affirmations and clear graphics, the ways of behaving when a new sibling comes home. Additionally, a guideline for parents is included as a conclusion.

Overall, it is a sweet book touching on this aspect which is informative for both parents and children, however some may disappointed to discover that it is essentially a copy of Im a Big Brother, with brother replaced for sister.

I Told My Bro He Was Adopted To Annoy Him But It Was True!

You’re about to become a big sister—here’s what I always want you to remember

Over the past two years, I have been lucky enough to have not only one, but two younger brothers in my life. The main goal of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to provide children and youth in Canada that struggle with societal barriers and face adversities in their lives with a mentor to provide guidance and support in hopes of reminding the youth that they can be anything they dream of being, and the circumstances they face have nothing to do with the value of who they are. When I picked up and moved to the other side of the country for university, I wanted to become more involved with the province I was now living in. I figured that since I enjoyed working with children, the program would be right up my alley. Little did I know that volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters would actually change my life, and actually help me decide on a career path, and make a life-long friend.

Sisters are good, harsh, complicated, and everything in between. Having a sister is both a punishment and a gift anyway you see it. You both share memories nobody else can ever connect with in a special way. Your sister may inspire you or cause you headache but she is your sister and nothing will come in your way that could change it. Being a big sister is fun but is also a great responsibility.
