Though Louis Isidore Kahn (1901-1974) started his career late in his life, the few projects he was able to undertake were realized to perfection. With the Jonas Salk Institute in La Jolla, California (1959-1965) Kahn created a workspace with superb functional and aesthetic qualities; the institutes Minimalist elements radiate a sense of eternal beauty. The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth (1966-1972) occupies the somewhat faceless city like an island of spiritual space, an effect that is achieved by simplicity in design and materials. Also, the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad (1962-1974) and the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, National Assembly of Bangladesh in Dhaka that was finished after his death are buildings of monumental importance, demonstrating the vision of a talented and very unusual man..

I decided to read “One Direction: The Official Annual 2013” basically because I’m a die-hard fan of One Direction. Why would I not. Plus, it’s always interesting to see how well biographies are written, as they’re obviously not written by the actual person/s and to be able to compare them with the actual person/s writing, like I can do with this, as One Direction have written an autobiography. This book falls under the Wider Reading category “A diary, autobiography, or biography” on the Bingo-Board. I thought this category was great, as it has so many possibilities, and I found it quite hard to choose which book I should do. I also wanted to do this book, as it was a biography, and like I stated before, I will be quite critical of this book as it isn’t an autobiography, and to be frank, some people who write biographies have no idea whatsoever what they’re talking about.
Charlie Daniels proves he doesnt need music to tell a great story in his first book The Devil Went Down To Georgia. The book features a short biography, expanded stories of some of his most beloved songs, some original yarns featuring some eccentric characters, like the nonstop talking Radio Smith and Mrs. Effie who got dressed up when she got her first television set because she thought the people on the screen could see her, and the heartwarming A Carolina Christmas Carol, which Charlie reads to friends and family every Christmas Eve.
Three thousand years ago, a wise man said, “Train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Good training is not crisis management; it is what you do before the need of discipline arises. Most parenting is accidental rather than deliberate. Imagine building a house that way. We don’t need to reinvent training. There are child training principles and methods that have worked from antiquity. To neglect deliberate training is to shove your child into a sea of choices and passions without a boat of compass. This book is not about discipline, nor problem children. The emphasis is on the training of a child before the need to discipline arises. It is apparent that, though they expect obedience, most parents never attempt to train their child to obey. They wait until the behavior becomes unbearable and then explode. With proper training, discipline can be reduced to 5% of what many now practice. As you come to understand the difference between training and discipline, you will have a renewed vision for your family, no more raised voices, no contention, no bad attitudes, fewer spankings, a cheerful atmosphere in the home and total obedience from your children..
